I have been involved in the wine industry for over 10 years, specialising in retail, and come from a family whose involvement in the wine trade can be traced back over 130 years and six generations.
I have travelled to many wine-producing regions throughout the world and tasted and sold a wide variety of wines. Founding Martin-Bird Wines has given me the opportunity of dealing solely with the wines I consider to be among the best examples of their type and which offer excellent value for money. There are some well-known names on the list, such as Planeta of Sicily and Bodegas LAN of Rioja but there are also a large number of wines that you would not normally come across. Wineries such as Neudorf and Pegasus Bay of New Zealand make astonishingly good wines but do not make enough to deal with the major retailers and it is wineries like this (smaller, family-run, quality-obsessed) that I have concentrated on as they tend to make the more interesting wines.
