Trip to Italy
I've just got back from a fantastic trip to Italy. I was in North-eastern Italy, beginning in Alto Adige and then south to Soave, Valpolicella and Valdobbiadene. Having eaten enough food to last me until mid-November I'm struggling to find trousers that fit and I was only there for two nights!
So... onto the wines. We were entertained royally by all of the estates that we saw. Obviously this is in the hope that once we had seen the set-up and the location as well as being wined and dined afterwards we would then get enthusiastic about the wines and then sell lots of them. This can work, but in the end it depends on the quality of the operation that we see and finally, most important of all, on the quality and value for money of the liquid in the bottle.
Happily, there are a number of startling new discoveries that I'm looking forward to recommending - from Amarone innovators Bertani, wines from Soave pioneer Roberto Anselmi and prosecco maestro Ruggeri.
